ABOUT DAVE

David Davies is the recipient of major photographic certifications, including Master Photographer, Photographic Craftsman, and Certified Professional Photographer.

His youthful interest in both the technical and artistic aspects of photography was given a boost when he served as an electronics technician in the US Navy. While in the service, Dave regularly spent his free time in the photo hobby shop, starting the development of his mastery of the craft. A significant aspect of Dave’s Navy service was diagnosing and repairing electronic systems used to track submarines. His intense involvement in both photography and system diagnostics and maintenance provided the perfect background for the emergence of digital imaging technology and the use of sophisticated photographic applications.

Dave attended Shippensburg University, majoring in electrical engineering. Courses in physics, mathematics, and computer science kept him in touch with rapidly evolving system developments.

In 1989 Dave fulfilled his ambition to open a full-time portrait studio, Davies Photography, in Shippensburg, PA. His studio provided diverse services, such as graduation, wedding, and family portraits; commercial photography; and digital imaging for his central Pennsylvania community.

Dave’s professional developments and recognitions followed in rapid succession:

In 1990 he joined Professional Photographers of America.
In 1993 he attained his Certified Professional Photographer status.
In 1996 he earned his Master of Photography degree.
In 1997 he earned his Craftsman degree.
In 1998 he served as President of Triangle Photographers Association.
In 1999 the Photographic Exhibitions Committee approved him as an affiliate juror in the portrait category.
In 2000 he served as a print juror at the Professional Photographers of America International Photographic exhibit.

Dave has had a particular interest in supporting the development of other photographers through his teaching of numerous professional training classes. He has been teaching Photoshop since 1993 with the introduction of version 2.5. In addition, his programs on environmental lighting, desktop publishing, website development, and design, and network design and management are also much sought after.
